Fabric of Life has a strong focus on the contemporary textiles of India. The diversity of high quality textile crafts in India makes it the perfect place to study and collect contemporary textiles. Some textiles are based on ancient traditions while other works have a sharp contemporary edge. Textiles include tribal costume, shawls, scarves, wall hangings, quilts, embroidered panels, handbags and toys and dolls.
The majority of textiles are collected from the makers either through Non Government Organizations set up to support local communities and ensure the survival of traditional crafts or by buying directly from the artisans.
